Product Description

The American Gold Buffalo stands as one of the latest additions to the United States Mint’s annual bullion offerings. Debuting in 2006, these coins marked a significant milestone as the first .9999 pure 24-karat gold coins from the US Mint, aligning with modern principles of American coin design. Drawing inspiration from the early 20th century, the Mint resurrected a classic design for this prestigious bullion product. Currently, BullionSelect presents random year Gold Buffalo Coins for acquisition by both investors and collectors.

Conceived by the United States Mint to rival bullion coins from other sovereign mints minted in 24-karat gold, the American Gold Buffalo stands as the official gold bullion coin of the United States. Distinguishing itself from the popular American Gold Eagle, minted in 22-karat gold, the Gold Buffalo bears a unique allure with its higher gold purity.

The obverse and reverse faces of the Gold Buffalo feature James Earle Fraser’s renowned 1913 Indian Head Nickel design. Fraser, a native of Winona, Minnesota, drew upon his upbringing on the American frontier to craft these iconic images, capturing his vision of the American West.

The obverse of each coin showcases the left-profile portrait of a Native American chieftain, a composite representation of three real-world tribal leaders, skillfully amalgamated by Fraser. This side also bears the inscription “Liberty” alongside the year of issue.

On the reverse, Black Diamond, a majestic bison from New York City’s Central Park Zoo during the early 20th century, takes center stage. The towering presence of this magnificent creature is framed by engravings of “United States of America,” “E Pluribus Unum,” “In God We Trust,” as well as details of the coin’s weight, purity, metal content, and face value.
